What to do and how can you get rid of a bone in your leg?

Our feet are able to withstand long-term loads due to their special structure. Bones, joints, muscles and ligaments are responsible for their part of the work, thanks to which we have the opportunity to move freely, play sports, and wear our favorite shoes.

But when the feet cease to cope with their duties, the entire skeleton is forced to adapt to the current situation, which entails certain deformations, one of which is the protruding bones on the legs. Whether it is possible to get rid of them, and whether surgical intervention is mandatory, we will tell further.

Hallux valgus

Hallux valgus – this is the name of the problem, which occurs 20 times more often in women than in men. Moreover, it is relevant for all ages.

What provokes the subluxation of the thumb outward?

There may be several reasons:

  • constant load on the forefoot due to professional characteristics (in particular, dancers and gymnasts suffer from the problem);
  • excess weight;
  • flat feet (the smaller the bend of the foot, the greater the load on the spine and joints);
  • injuries in the coccyx and lower back (this leads to problems in the hip, lower legs, and, finally, feet);
  • wearing tight tight shoes;
  • heredity.

It should be noted right away that this will not work by itself. And the longer you delay, the more difficult it will be to fix everything later. After all, the minimum deformation over time will acquire a larger, extensive and serious scale.

At the initial stage, you may not be bothered by anything. But after some time, swelling appears, redness in the area of the problem joint. Shoes begin to rub painful calluses, there is a feeling of constant tiredness of the legs, tingling in the soles.

If these symptoms begin to bother you, get down to business.

Control methods

What do you need to do? First of all, you will have to give up uncomfortable and hard shoes. The ideal option is soft material, comfortable last, 2-4 cm heel.

Secondly, it is necessary to consult an orthopedic traumatologist. If the situation is not too difficult, it is quite possible to prescribe special orthopedic insoles and a set of mandatory exercises. Among which:

  • kicking a bottle or ball;
  • rotation of the feet;
  • flexion-extension of the toes with varying intensity and speed.

In the warm season, walking barefoot on sand, grass and pebbles helps a lot.

You may also be prescribed a course of taking anti-inflammatory drugs that will help relieve swelling and pain. Usually, together with this, it is recommended to undergo physiotherapy procedures – electrophoresis, baths, mud applications. This will help improve blood flow and relieve tension from your legs.

In modern conditions, various devices are also available that promise to help those who suffer from protruding bones. There is, for example, a splitter, which is a small bus. It helps to fix and hold the finger in the correct position. Such a simple device is quite capable of bringing a positive result under the condition of the initial stage of hallux valgus.

Another way to treat a bone in your leg is a bandage. Its principle of operation is similar to the separator. It fixes the joint well and prevents its deformation. In addition, the bandage will fit any foot size, while the separator needs to be customized.

If such methods do not bring results, and the pain continues to bother you, you need to consult a doctor again.

Typically, this will result in surgery to help restore the joint to normal by sawing the first metatarsal bone.

In especially difficult cases, screws, plates or special threads are additionally used for fixation. Such an operation lasts about half an hour, and the rehabilitation period will take about 1-2 months. During this time, it will be necessary to wear special orthopedic shoes, and after recovery, it will be impossible to wear high heels.

The likelihood of relapse is quite high, and manifests itself in 1/3 of patients who neglect the doctor’s recommendations, continue to wear tight shoes or do not agree to weight loss.

There are also folk remedies that are an alternative method of solving the problem. For a start, it is recommended to cleanse the body of excess salts. This can be done by taking a decoction of bay leaves (1 tablespoon of powder per 300 ml of water) throughout the day. The course is 3 days.

After that, it is recommended to lubricate the problem area with an alcoholic infusion of bay leaves (5 pcs. Per 100 ml) and make baths of soda (1 tablespoon per 3 liters of water). A mixture of crushed aspirin and iodine tablets (2 per 5 ml) also has a beneficial effect on the joints.

It is possible to get rid of the bones on the legs if you notice the discomfort that appears in time and consult a doctor. This is what will help prevent the appearance of bursitis – an inflammatory process and further deformation of the joint. Be healthy!
